 2018 Preview 


       Westbrook Christian completed the 2017 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region six, the Warriors earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Westbrook Christian's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Sulligent by a score of 42-14.

       It marked the first time since the 2012 season that the Warriors qualified for the playoffs.

       Westbrook Christian was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Warriors want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.5 points a game.

       Since 2010, Westbrook Christian has gone a combined 41-41. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Westbrook Christian has managed to compile a record of 132-125. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 2A and 177th in the AHSAA.




       The Warriors are led by head coach Brian Mintz who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 5-6 record in his first season at Westbrook Christian. The Warriors saw improvement from a 3-7 record the season before coach Mintz arrived. Under his direction the Warriors have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Mintz.

       Coach Mintz's overall record as a head football coach in twenty-two season stands at 134-115 (53.8%). His 134 wins rank 33rd among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Mintz's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won six region championships.

       The Westbrook Christian Warriors will play in Class 2A region six during the 2018 season.

       The Warriors will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region six this season.

       The Warriors open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Coosa Christian on Friday, August 24. Last year the Coosa Christian Conquerors finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in third place in Class 1A region six. The Conquerors lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Cherokee by a score of 49-0.

       Westbrook Christian and Coosa Christian have met a total of 27 times on the football field. The Warriors have a 18-9-0 record against the Conquerors. They last met in 2011 with Westbrook Christian winning by a score of 41-6.

       Westbrook Christian returns 2A All-State  defensive lineman Jackson Luttrell. He was named to the second team last season.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Morris Higginbotham coached three different teams to divisional state championships in the 1950s. He won titles at Walnut Grove in 1952, West Blocton in 1955 and Enterprise in 1960.
